Scarecrows have helped save farmers' crops for hundreds of years and this competition offers students a great opportunity to combine their geography skills and knowledge with design and art.
2021 Theme: Step back in time
Students will be given the opportunity to step back in time and research a decade in history. They will work together to dress the scarecrow according to that era and to the crops and food that were popular in that time.
The winner will be presented by the Governor of Queensland his Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey and the winning scarecrow will be placed in the gardens of Government House!
In 2021, the School Scarecrow Competition will have an exciting new home in the lower Royal ICC and remain part of the flower and garden precinct.
This competition is aligned and recommended for Year 5 & 6 students. However, all year levels are welcome to enter.
