The iconic Giant Pumpkin Competition supported by Pillow Talk offers more than $3,400 in prize money. This competition features two classes, testing the growing skills of farmers, students and gardeners to see who can harvest the heaviest giant pumpkin.
Class 1 - Open
Open to exhibitors 19 years and over who have harvested a pumpkin of at least 70kg.
Class 2 - Youth
Open to individuals or school groups 18 years and under who have harvested a pumpkin of at least 25kg.
CHAMPION HEAVIEST PUMPKIN OF SHOW
Only entries weighing more than 80kg are eligible to compete.
Judging will take place in the Royal International Convention Centre at the Brisbane Showgrounds in February 2022, with the competition held outside of the August Ekka dates to take advantage of the premium pumpkin growing season. It’s best to plant the seeds no later than early October 2021 to give the pumpkins time to pack on the pounds, as the fruit takes around four and a half months to mature.
The competition record is currently held by giant pumpkin veteran Geoff Frohloff, with his 2015 entry crushing the competition, weighing in at 261.5kg.
This competition is aligned and recommended for year 7 students. However, everyone from farmers, students and gardeners are welcome to enter.
Entries close: 9 Feb 2022
