Can I work on EKKA day?

The Royal Queensland Show, affectionately known as Ekka, is a 9-day event from Friday 9 August until Sunday 17 August 2025 held at the Brisbane Showgrounds.

Wednesday 13 August is known as 'People's Day' and is a public holiday in Brisbane, but not all regions observe this or celebrate on this day. Some people in the City of Brisbane may be required to work on August 13, depending on their employer and industry.

For those with the day off, it's a great chance to experience the Ekka and all it has to offer - iconic competitions, animals, rides, entertainment, fireworks, carnival and gourmet food, showbags, and strawberry sundaes, among other attractions.

The Ekka website is the best place to find information on tickets, discounts, schedules, parking, rides, showbags and competitions.

If you're asking 'Can I work on Ekka day'? It's best to speak to your employer directly. For information on Public Holidays visit the Queensland Government website.
