The St Mary’s College Marching Band was established in 2018 as an ensemble to represent the College in the Toowoomba’s Carnival of Flowers parade. This new and unique ensemble sees members marching in step while performing memorised pieces and showcasing tricks and visual effects with flags. The visual element of the colourguard, aside from enhancing the overall performance, is designed to be an inclusive activity to allow the College’s Primary Music students to participate in a complex project. The SMC Marching Band travelled to Brisbane this year to take part in the Queensland Commemorative Memorial March through the city centre on Anzac Day. They were also invited to perform as roving entertainment at the Opening of the Toowoomba Show. This event saw the Marching Band appear as accompaniment for the arrival of Australia’s Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove, who was there on official duties to unveil the memorial plaque. This was an excellent opportunity for the boys who proudly performed for many hours on their pubic holiday! The SMC Marching Band will be returning to the streets again in August to perform in the streets in the annual Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers.
