Playing the great highland bagpipes and Scottish-style drums in the sweltering sub-tropics might seem like an unusual hobby, but we love it! We are a social and competition band – we compete a few times per year in competitions around Brisbane to improve our standard of playing, and we also play for local parades, pubs, parks, one-off performances, and regional festivals throughout the year. We play a range of traditional Scottish, Irish, pan-Celtic and Australian music, plus a few more recent tunes for pub gigs. We proudly wear McNeill of Barra tartan – this is due to the band's founding member and longstanding Pipe Major being part of Clan McNeil. Most of us are just Aussies who love the music, though, but we also have afew South Africans and one token Scot! We have around 25 active players at the moment, including about 15 pipers and 10 drummers, who range in ability from recent learners up to Grade 2 pipers and drummers. We are a lovely bunch who enjoy a laugh and are family friendly– we try not to take ourselves too seriously, but still enjoy playing good music well!
