Classics for a reason

A day at Ekka wouldn't be the same without time-honoured Show snacks like fairy floss, dagwood dogs, strawberries in chocolate fudge, and classic jam and cream scones.

All of your favourite treats can be found at Ekka again this year, including some which hold a special place in Ekka's heart.

Strawberry Sundaes

Visitors are once again in for a real treat with the iconic Ekka Strawberry Sundae set to satisfy those cravings.

Approximately 10 tonnes of strawberries are used to make the Ekka Strawberry Sundaes each year. The Ekka Strawberry Sundae is mouth-watering top to bottom, from the crunchy wafer cone to the smooth white ice-cream, sweet chopped strawberries, delicious gourmet strawberry ice-cream, swirls of fresh cream and topped off with a tasty fresh Queensland strawberry.

On average more than 152,000 sundaes are sold each year with profits helping fund research to find cures and save lives.

The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation has funded around $15 million in research over the past 20 years, with the help of regular donors and people buying sundaes at Ekka. This is the 31st year The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation's thousands of volunteers have made the iconic Ekka Strawberry Sundae, with around $1.5 million raised for research.

The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation funds world-class research into some of the world's biggest health challenges, such as heart disease, lung cancer, arthritis, asthma, dementia, and mental illness. They help young researchers get started and experienced researchers to continue their work.

The Foundation receives no government funding and runs the Ekka Strawberry Sundae stalls with the help of nearly 3,000 volunteers each year. The sundaes are made with quality locally sourced ingredients including LICK gourmet ice cream, strawberries from Wamuran, cream from Queensland dairies and crunchy wafer cones.

Country Women's Association scones

In the old-school eatery you'll find all sorts of traditional country fare including the time-honoured scones with jam and cream from the Country Women's Association.

Find all the traditional favourites like sponge cakes, biscuits and egg and lettuce sandwhiches at the CWA tea rooms under the John MacDonald Stand.

Dagwood dogs and fairy floss

Nothing complements a day at Ekka like dagwood dogs or fairy floss. Vendors across the site sell these classics, as well as everyday snacks such as chips and soft drinks.
