Celebrity Chef Mel Alafaci
Creator of Vanilla Zulu Culinary Adventures
Nicknamed the Happy Chef, bubbly and vivacious Chef Mel is the creator of Teneriffe’s celebrated Vanilla Zulu Culinary Adventures and is a successful cook book author. The enthusiastic, entertaining chef and cooking school owner says “with a little know how, anyone can plate up spectacular meals.” As the Queen of Culinary Bling, Chef Mel is brilliant at making everyday dishes spectacular with quick and easy plating and presentation techniques using her own culinary lingo to make cooking fun and easy to learn.
Mel’s cooking, in part, pays tribute to her Zimbabwean upbringing living on a farm in South Africa, exploring the exotic flavours and creations of African cuisine.

Her latest venture, Putia: Pure Food Kitchen, School and Pantry recently opened in Brisbane’s Banyo, showcasing her extensive food knowledge and skills and inspiring people to create healthy and delicious recipes.
Chef Taya Meeikeaw
Taya will return to the Ekka for her second cooking school circuit, exhibiting her unmatched teaching and culinary talents. Based in Enoggera, Taya is a Thai food pioneer and will be showcasing unique creations from her new and dynamic cooking studio Taya’s Kitchen.
Chef Kelly Lord
Head Chef - Spirit House Restaurant
Kelly has been Head Chef at the critically acclaimed Spirit House Restaurant on the Sunshine Coast since 2004. His journey in Asian and Thai cuisine has taken him to Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia. Kelly also combines his restaurant duties with teaching at the popular Spirit House Cooking School.
Chef Adam Herbert
Primal Iron BBQBrisbane’s iconic steakhouse chef, Adam, is both a pioneer in Primal BBQ Iron cooking and a classically trained chef. Adam has previously worked at Brisbane’s Buffalo Bar and Walter’s Steakhouse as a distinguished steakhouse chef, receiving recognition and awards for his work from Brisbane’s restaurant community.
