The sound of Ekka
Ekka is a music lover’s paradise featuring country favourites and pop icons. Don’t miss the toe-tapping talent throughout the show!
In 2017 Brooke was a crowd favourite belting out the country classics at XXXX Stockmen’s Bar & Grill. Brooke toured Australia with country music legend Keith Urban in 2014 performing the duet ‘We Were Us’ and she has also been a support act for Tina Arena and Rick Price.
Rob McGowan has been performing since he was 16 and is a one man orchestra. Ekka guests were wowed by his use of ‘looping’ technology to enhance his performance - hearing Rob piece together guitar parts and harmonies on stage, without any backing tracks!
Mackay musician Heath Milner is certainly one to keep an eye on.
Since winning the Open Category at Ekka’s Country Music Showdown Competition in 2016, Heath’s career has gone from strength to strength.
The 17 year old auditioned on TV show The Voice AU in 2017 and while he didn’t turn any chairs, he certainly stole the spotlight when Coach and music icon Boy George gifted him a ticket to Nashville to continue his country music dream.
Stevenson St. Trio
This high energy covers band had the crowds up and dancing during their first time performing at Ekka in 2017. With three talented members - Chris Stevenson on guitar, Brad Poole on bass and Brett Newman on drums - Stevenson St. has a repertoire covering five decades of popular music, from top 40 tunes from the sixties through to the latest hits. The Stevenson St. five piece band will also performed at XXXX Stockmen’s Bar & Grill.
Rob Black Trio
Led by Brisbane based musician Rob Black, who was described by country great Lee Kernaghan as "one of the hottest singer/guitarists to rock Australian country since Keith Urban," the Rob Black Trio certainly rocked Ekka. Rob’s five piece band, The Kelly Gang, also took to the stage at Stockmen’s Bar & Grill and had Ekka guests dusting off their boots and hitting the dance floor.
Queensland Police Pipes and Drums
With their powerful presence, Queensland Police Pipes and Drums performed each day on the Plaza Music Stage Presented by Tinamba Turf. Long celebrated as one of Australia's finest pipe bands, these musicians are the professional face of the Queensland Police Service at ceremonial and community events.
Australian Army Band Brisbane
Whether it’s their jazz, acoustic, rock or 10 piece group, the Australian Army Band Brisbane belted out tune after tune at Ekka. Based at Enoggera, the Australian Army Band Brisbane has been rocking since 1949 and has cemented their reputation as one of the finest military bands in Australia.
IBrisbane City Council showcased Brisbane’s best new musical talent at The QUBE Effect 2017. Visible Ink Youth Arts Hub is a proud supporter of these local and emerging bands and continues to provide professional development opportunities, including the opportunity for nine of the performers to take to the stage at Ekka.
Dan Quigley Jazz Trio
Dan has been performing as a professional musician for more than two decades, with one of his highlights playing with well-known trumpeter Wynton Marsalis in a private concert in New York
