Ekka will be a music lover’s paradise featuring country favourites and pop icons. Don’t miss the toe-tapping talent throughout the show!


Brooke Schubert

WHEN: 8PM - 11:30PM, AUGUST 12, 15 & 19

For the very first time at Ekka and fresh from this year’s season of The Voice AU, Brooke is sure to be a crowd favourite when she belts out the country classics at XXXX Stockmen’s Bar & Grill. Brooke toured Australia with country music legend Keith Urban in 2014 performing the duet ‘We Were Us’ and she has also been a support act for Tina Arena and Rick Price.

Rob McGowan 

WHEN: 8:30PM AUGUST 13, 14 & 17

Rob McGowan has been performing since he was 16 and is a one man orchestra. Ekka guests will be wowed as he uses ‘looping’ technology to enhance his performance - everything they hear will be Rob piecing together guitar parts and harmonies on stage, without any backing tracks!


Don’t miss the toe tapping talent on the Plaza Music Stage presented by Tinamba Turf. New this year is extended stage hours, with performers belting out tunes from 10am to 9.45pm. There are five unique acts this year, plus nine artists from QUBE Effect.

Heath Milner

WHEN: 10:30AM & 11:30AM, AUGUST 20

Mackay musician Heath Milner is certainly one to keep an eye on.

Since winning the Open Category at Ekka’s Country Music Showdown Competition last year, Heath’s career has gone from strength to strength.

The 17 year old auditioned on TV show The Voice AU earlier this year and while he didn’t turn any chairs, he certainly stole the spotlight when Coach and music icon Boy George gifted him a ticket to Nashville to continue his country music dream.

Stevenson St. Trio 

WHEN: 5PM AUGUST 12 & 20, 8PM AUGUST 12, 15 & 20, 9PM AUGUST 12 & 15

This high energy covers band is sure to have the crowds up and dancing during their first time performing at Ekka.  With three talented members - Chris Stevenson on guitar, Brad Poole on bass and Brett Newman on drums - Stevenson St. has a repertoire covering five decades of popular music, from top 40 tunes from the sixties through to the latest hits. The Stevenson St. five piece band will also perform all the popular hits at XXXX Stockmen’s Bar & Grill at 8pm on August 16.

Rob Black Trio

WHEN: 8PM & 9PM, AUGUST 13 & 17

Led by Brisbane based musician Rob Black, who was described by country great Lee Kernaghan as "one of the hottest singer/guitarists to rock Australian country since Keith Urban," the Rob Black Trio will certainly be rocking Ekka. Rob’s five piece band, The Kelly Gang, will then take to the stage at Stockmen’s Bar & Grill at 8pm on August 20 and are sure to have Ekka guests dusting off their boots and hitting the dance floor.

Queensland Police Pipes and Drums 

WHEN: 4pm August 11, 12, 14, 16, 18, 19 & 20, 3pm August 13, 15, & 17

With their powerful presence, Queensland Police Pipes and Drums will perform each day on the Plaza Music Stage Presented by Tinamba Turf.  Long celebrated as one of Australia's finest pipe bands, these musicians are the professional face of the Queensland Police Service at ceremonial and community events.

Australian Army Band Brisbane 

WHEN: 1pm, 3pm, 8pm & 9pm August 11, 14, 16 & 19, 1pm, 2pm, 4pm & 5pm August 13, 15, & 17, 8pm & 9pm August 18, 1pm & 3pm August 20

Whether it’s their jazz, acoustic, rock or 10 piece group, the Australian Army Band Brisbane will belt out tune after tune at Ekka. Based at Enoggera, the Australian Army Band Brisbane has been rocking since 1949 and has cemented their reputation as one of the finest military bands in Australia.

Qube Effect

WHEN: 1pm August 12, 11am & 12pm August 14 & 15, 10am & 11am August 16, 11am & 12pm August 19

Brisbane City Council showcased Brisbane’s best new musical talent at The QUBE Effect 2017.  Visible Ink Youth Arts Hub is a proud supporter of these local and emerging bands and continues to provide professional development opportunities, including the chance for nine of the performers to take to the stage at Ekka.


Dan Quigley Jazz Trio


Dan has been performing as a professional musician for more than two decades, with one of his highlights playing with well-known trumpeter Wynton Marsalis in a private concert in New York

The Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) presents Ekka’s Country Music Showdown presented by Ringers Western. Queensland’s rising country music stars will have the opportunity to showcase their talent and get a true live music experience when they are backed by a live band. Last year’s competition unearthed Felicity Kircher, the Junior Category Winner and Heath Milner, the Open Category Winner - Heath went on to become a contestant on The Voice AU, where Coach and music icon Boy George gifted the talented teen a ticket to Nashville to continue his music dream. It’s all about that brass, with Ekka guests invited to step in line and follow the sound of music as local schools, community marching bands, drum lines and pep bands perform throughout the showgrounds. Be on the lookout for the Australian Army Band Brisbane, with their 9 to 10 piece mobile pep band.
