This year's theme for The Natural Fibres Fashion Parades presented by 7NEWS is that every garment tells a story.
The parades reflect on the journey of fibres to fashion and showcases the many hands that come together when making a garment. Audiences will be educated on the colourful and creative ways natural materials such as cotton, wool, silk, bamboo, hemp and linen, are used to create the final garments.
The runway will feature 15 designers from Brisbane and across Queensland, from the city to the regions including Bundaberg and Blackall. Including; Red Ridge the Label, Jericho Road Clothing, Chamani, Robe, Luna and Sun, Monica Tovar, White Label Noba, Tengdahl, St Blonde, Maven, Pia du Pradal, Sacha Drake, Isabella Longginou, Living Silk and George Wu. There are also student designers from QUT, Billy Blue College of Design and TAFE Queensland.
Categories this year include daywear, occasion wear, student designs and formal/bridalwear. Australia’s longest-running free fashion parades will be directed by Laura Churchill for the fourth year and choreographed by Kylie Goeldner.
The show not only celebrates natural fibre fashion but also provides seven local models with an exciting opportunity to come back to the Ekka runway or make their debut on this major Queensland catwalk. This year marks the 29th year of Ekka presenting its fashion parades, which is the show’s most glamourous event.
