COVID-19 Update

The RNA would like to provide you with an important update regarding this year’s Royal Queensland Show.

A decision on staging the 2020 Ekka will now be made within the coming weeks.

This is following Sunday's (29/3/20) announcement that the Queensland Government was exploring options to set up a temporary hospital at the Brisbane Showgrounds to treat Covid-19 patients if there is overflow from hospitals.

The RNA is working very closely with the Government to ensure the Showgrounds can be utilised as effectively and as quickly as possible to provide temporary hospital accommodation and other health needs as required.

Our Royal International Convention Centre can be transformed into a functioning hospital, and the RNA will provide every assistance we can to the Government to ensure this occurs.

Over the past 144 years, the Showgrounds have been used to help the community in times of crisis, including being used as a treatment centre in 1918 for those suffering from Spanish Influenza to an evacuation centre for those impacted by the devastation of the 2011 Brisbane floods.

The RNA is dedicated to providing all the assistance and support we can to Government and the health authorities in these very challenging and uncertain times.

With this announcement plus further restrictions on public gatherings which on Sunday (29/3/20) was limited to two people by the Federal Government, it is looking less likely the 2020 Ekka will proceed.

Considering this, we are liaising with Queensland Health on a daily basis, and a final decision will be made on the show in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your understanding during these challenging and uncertain times; we greatly appreciate your support.

If you do enter a competition that does not proceed, the RNA will issue a full refund of your entry fee.
