RNA Dairy Australia Teachers Cheese Making Workshops
• 2012 Recipient of Education Queensland's Peter Doherty Awards for Excellence in Science and Science Education - Science Education Partnership Award
• First place recipient at the 2011 International Association of Fairs and Expositions conference.
2013 Workshops:
Monday 11 March - Friday 15 March
Now in its fourth year, these innovative and engaging workshops give teachers the skills and experience to teach their students to make cheese. In turn, students gain knowledge and an appreciation of the importance of dairy produce practices.
Each workshop runs for approximately six hours with an hour of cheese making theory which relates to the different styles of cheeses being made (camembert and blue).  This includes information on the starter cultures used and the chemistry of the processes involved and anticipated outcomes. This is followed by a practical, hands-on cheese making session on the maturation process that takes place over the following six to seven weeks.
Participants are supplied with a cheese hoop and maturing container so they can mature the cheese made at the workshop.  Detailed notes on recipes and the make procedure, and the equipment required are provided in an information package.
The workshops are free to attend.
