Queensland's largest classroom
There's nothing quite like a hands-on experience to
crystallise learning experiences into lifelong memories. Ekka
provides incredible opportunities for children to explore the
world.
As Queensland's largest classroom, Ekka is rich with interactive
exhibits and activities for students. Education has always been a
priority throughout Ekka's history, and we are proud to continue
that tradition.
School groups are invited to attend Ekka as an excursion. Many
resources for teachers are available to help you plan your day at
Ekka. School groups also receive discounted tickets on special
school days at Ekka: Thursday 9 August, Friday 10 August, Thursday
16 August, and Friday 17 August 2012.
The School Group Booking Form will be available to download in
June 2012.
Chalkies and Cheese
Innovative and engaging, the Royal Queensland Food and Wine
Show's cheese-making workshops give teachers the skills and
experience to teach their students to make cheese. In turn,
students gain knowledge and an appreciation of the importance of
dairy farmers' practices and the scientific processes involved in
cheese making.
Russell Smith, Chief Judge of the Royal Queensland Food and Wine
Show (RQFWS) Cheese and Dairy Produce Competition, will conduct a
series of Cheese Making Workshops for Teachers from 19 to
23 March 2012.
The workshops aim to give teachers the skills to make cheeses in
the classroom environment, and for their cheeses to be eligible for
entry into the Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show Student Cheese
Making Competition to be judged on 6 June 2012. Find out more about
the 2012 workshops.
Teachers will learn how to produce camembert and blue cheeses. The
program has been so successful that there is a waiting list of
schools wanting to participate. Schools have reported that some
students are so enthusiastic that they have chosen to study Biology
just to make cheese.
